An eco-friendly and technology-innovative new town is rejuvenating in West Dalian

On January 28, 2010, the International Symposium on the Construction of an Eco-friendly and Technology-Innovative New Town in Dalian was held. According to the Symposium, a project involving a total area of 65 km2 will be initiated in Ganjingzi district of Dalian city this year. The construction of this eco-favored and innovation-geared new town is an important measure for promoting urbanization, accelerating the development of Ganjingzi district into the new central district of Dalian, further extending the scientific and technological industrial chains, uplifting industrial values, and speeding up the gathering of innovative resources of technology both at home and abroad, and the elevation of core city functions.

According to the responsible person of Dalian Municipal Bureau of Science & Technology, the eco-friendly and technology-innovative new town will be extended to the north and west of Dadonggou service outsourcing base; to Hezhou Road on the east, boundary to the sports new town; to Daheishi shore on the west. The new town will highlight the high-edges of science and technology industries, and focus on the development of technology R & D, industrial design, creative industries, research fruit transformation, cartoon and animation industries, education & training, biotechnology, science & technology services and medium, financial services, business services, and other related top-end high-tech service industries. It is also going to introduce some R & D centers of transnational corporations and large and medium-sized state-owned enterprises, research institutes and labs of globally renowned universities, technology transfer and science & technology fruit transformation institutions, finance and venture investment organizations, and other agencies for providing technological certifications, services, support, and talent training programs. On the basis of protecting and uplifting the current eco-environment, it will emphasize on the comprehensive eco-development guided by top-end industries, with the green building coverage as high as 90%.

On this Symposium, Chief Commercial Officer of New York Academy of Sciences, Rene Baston, President of Monitor Group in China, Doctor Tan Rui, and Professor Wang Jici of Peking University, and other experts held in-depth discussions and put forward very good suggestions on the orientation and construction of the eco-friendly and technology-innovative new town. Professor Cai Jian of Peking University said, the construction of the eco-friendly and technology-innovative town calls for great efforts on the development of eco-system firstly, and meanwhile, high technology should be put as the bloodline of the city. The motivation for maintaining a science & technology innovative city demands innovation and constant absorption of both domestic and overseas successful experiences.
